Hailuo AI — a strong video model with the worst billing reputation
Hailuo AI is the official video platform of the Chinese lab MiniMax, one of the majors in AI. Its flagship Hailuo 2.3 model is one of the best for realistic motion, physics and cinematic feel. Beyond its own model, the platform offers access to other top engines (Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0, Nano Banana Pro/2, Seedream 5.0/4.5, GPT Image), image-to-video and a Media Agent. Do not mix it up — the official domain is hailuoai.video; there are clone sites (e.g. hailuo-ai.com) flagged as scams.
What's good
The product itself is strong — Hailuo is consistently among the top video models, motion and physics look natural, and the interface is simple. There is a free tier (on Hailuo models) and a low entry price — Standard from $9.99/mo monthly or $7.99/mo billed annually, plus frequent 33–49% discounts.
Pricing
Free — one-time trial credits (Hailuo models only). Paid monthly — Standard $9.99 (1,000 credits, ~83 videos), Pro $34.99 (4,500, ~375 videos), Master $79.99 (10,500, ~875 videos), Max $199.99 (20,000, ~1,666 videos). Billed annually it is 47% off: $7.99 / $27.99 / $63.99 / $199.99 a month. Higher tiers run some models "unlimited." Billing is credit-based — burn rate depends on the model.
The main problem — billing and support
This is where it falls apart. hailuoai.video sits at just 1.4/5 on Trustpilot — the lowest score in our whole list. The complaints are severe and recurring — charges after cancellation (including with written cancellation confirmation), an annual charge during a "free 7-day trial," a missing cancel button, and promised 15-day refunds that never arrive even after a month of emails. The charges come from a third party, Nanonoble Ltd, and support effectively does not reply.
Verdict
The technology is among the best on the market, but the billing reputation is critical: 1.4/5 with stories of illegal charges and missing refunds is a serious red flag. Net result — 6.0: a great model, but if you pay, use a virtual/one-time card only, watch the renewal date, and be ready to dispute charges with your bank.
